May Mayhem .................(part 2)

So here is part two of my May adventures.................

Friend visits
My friend Fiona came to visit for a long weekend at the start of May. Fiona is a teacher from Sydney and is on exchange in Denver as a special needs teacher. We had a blast over the two and a half days she spent here in Grand Junction - driving across the Colorado Monument, wine tasting, driving up to the Grand Mesa (where Powderhorn Ski Area is located) and having a great evening out with my Colorado friends. We even helped each other remember to call our Mums on Mother's Day!! :-D

Lakes on our way driving through Grand Mesa - yes, that is snow!
The elevation is high enough that the snow is sticking!

Mica Mine Hike

Taking this hike for the second time was completely different. I hiked this trail on April 1st and almost 6 weeks later it was like hiking a new trail. Spring had sprung with the shrubs green and full and the wildflowers blooming. It was so pretty walking along the canyon! Here are some pictures of the wildflowers and some of the scenery:

The mica in the walls of the old mine.
It is very flaky and is silver coloured when it catches the light.

As we were driving back down we had a great view
of the storm coming through the valley - this cloud was
situated directly over the town centre and was
very defined. All around it was clear!

The end of school - the start of summer!

So here I am - about to begin 10 weeks of summer holidays. One more day with the students, one more teacher day at school and holidays begin. I am ready for a long break and can not wait to start my travels. East Coast, West Coast, Alaska, the southern state of Texas for an ICT PD.......... I am seeing the sights and plan on enjoying every moment of the next 10 weeks! My sister arrives in the USA in four days and my parents arrive in July - I can't wait to see them and show them around where I am living this year :-)

Keep smiling everyone - back soon with more adventures!

  2. Hi Candice. Glad you are enjoying your exchange. We travelled to Colorado last summer to meet up with our buddy Matt (Melbourne, 2011). We also visited Grand Junction and the Monument. Loved it all!!
